Fisichella: “Blair’s approval of same-sex marriage is inconsistent with his faith”

If the stories in the press about Blair’s thinking are true, I think he should examine his conscience carefully and realise that there is no coherence between the content of faith and the concrete action that must be taken by a politician.”

The comment was made by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelisation, in reference to former British prime minister - and Catholic convert - Tony Blair’s support of Conservative leader David Cameron’s plans for the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Blair was responsible for introducing civil partnership laws for same-sex couples and also lowered the age of consent for gay sex to 16, but had kept quiet about the issue of same-sex marriage.

Not any more it appears.
